State of Massachusetts Animal Resource Team (SMART)

is a network of organizations, agencies, and individuals committed to the needs of the animal population in disaster situations throughout Massachusetts.

OUR MISSION
The mission of SMART is to be a key resource in Massachusetts by establishing best practices for animal emergency preparedness . Through training and education, SMART assists in the development of disaster animal response teams, both locally and regionally, in an effort to strengthen capabilities throughout the state.

OUR GOALS

• Minimize the threats to the health and safety of animals and humans
• Minimize the economic impact of animal emergencies
• Decrease the spread of disease to animals and humans during any emergency
• Understand the interface between human and animal health
