SMART no longer maintains a list of volunteers to staff emergency animal shelters statewide. Volunteers who want to support animals during emergency situations are encouraged to join their local disaster animal response team (DART) or consider starting a local DART if their town is without one. More information is available on the DART page.

Veterinary personnel are also needed to help our BART trainers teach triage and pet handling to first responders. Check out our BART page for more information.

Our volunteer database is maintained on MA Responds, the online registration system for public health, healthcare, and emergency response volunteers in Massachusetts. If you are a member of a Medical Reserve Corp or Community Emergency Response Team your information may already be listed as a volunteer in MA Responds and you can sign on and choose an established DART team or contact info@smartma.org and let us know you are interested in forming a team.
